Of all
the computer firms out there, Dell has taken to using social network more than
many. Dell has used Twitter and Facebook to offer discounts and other special
promotions. Dell is also looking at ways to improve its customer service using
other methods than tradtional phone calls and email. One of the methods that
Dell is looking at is using the new Google+ Hangouts for video chat service.
The tip that Dell is considering Google+
Hangouts for customer service comes from CEO Michael Dell. Over
the weekend Dell posted a comment on Google+ that read, "I am thinking
about hangouts for business. Would you like to be able to connect with your
Dell service and sale teams via video directly from Dell.com?"
Gigaom reports that Dell had hundreds of positive comments about
the possible use of Google+ Hangouts. The idea of being able to have a group of
people video chat with a customer service agent at once is appealing and the
Hangouts chat could also allow the customers to help each other solve issues.
As it stands now, there is no way for Dell to integrate Google+ Hangouts into
its website since the service is still by invite only. However, Google is said
to be evaluating how it could integrate brands and businesses into Google+.
Dell's idea would certainly be a good way to integrate the service.
Google+
was unveiled last month and so far, it has about 10 million users. DailyTech's Tiffany
Kaiser offered first impressions of the service earlier
this month.
Google reported last week that so far over a billion items have been shared on
Google+. There have been some predictions that the service might hit 20 million
users by the coming weekend.
