The Dell 22" LCD E228WFP
New display shows up in time for Canada's busiest shopping day

During mid-December, a new Dell 22” LCD with model number E228WFP mysteriously showed up in Japan. The display has a 1680x1050 resolution, HDCP support and a 5ms grey-to-grey response time. The price when first spotted was an equivalent of around US$560, though the monitor still has yet to make an appearance in the U.S.

After appearing on the Dell Australia and Japan Web sites, the E228WFP finally makes its debut on North American shores – with distinct emphasis on the North. To be specific, the E228WFP is now on proud display on the Dell Canada site with shipping times at an estimated one to two weeks. The price, however, is something far less than what we’ve seen in other territories. As part of a Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) special, the monitor is selling at a CAD$100 discount for CAD$299, which is around US$257.

There is still no word on the planned availability of this monitor in the U.S. For those in Canada, however, act fast if you’re planning on picking this one up – it’s supposedly going back to its $399 price tag as soon as Boxing Day sale period is over.

Thats a pretty low resolution for a screen that size, but i guess if you wanna keep the cost down you dont have much choice.

That's the standard resolution for a 22" screen...1920x1200 on a screen that size would be painfully small. Personally, I'm waiting to trade my 2405 in for the Dell 27" screen. Same resolution, but three inches larger.

I run 1900x1200 on my Inspiron 9300 (native resolution), as do alot of people with the same model. Definitely not too small, even on a 17inch widescreen. You have the option to set fonts to 125% and image scaling in IE, and it is quite effective. If this monitor could do 1900X1200, I do not think Dell would be able to keep up with the demand. This one will probably find a place on my desk nonetheless.

The only IE7 feature that I miss on FF.... When I have time I'll search for an extension to do that.... anybody know any?

Far too small for the average person over age 25...eyesight weakens as people age. As for font scaling, it causes issues in some applications. And if you're going to scale up all your fonts and images anyway, why not just buy a larger monitor in the first place? Less issues and better image quality that way.

Nope, I'll be giving it to the wife. Her 22" WS will get passed down to one of the kids, and their monitor donated to Goodwill for the tax deduction. That's why I upgrade more often than I really need to...always plenty of demand for the hand-me-downs :)

Well, i've bought one

the ship date is listed as jan 5th.

The only thing i am really worried about is the contrast --it is only 700:1 (well dell says 800:1).

I have looked at the acer version in the store ..but it was in vga mode and split many times. So the visual quality was horrible and not comparable.

but for 299$ cdn ...it is a gamble worth taking :)

I'd buy it for $257. Heck, I could probably sell my 2005fp for that or close to it.

It's a good deal for people looking for a basic LCD screen. This one is not part of the ultrasharp line and the stand is not ajustable. Even though the response time is good, I just recently got the 2007WFP LCD from dell and it has 16ms and I can barely see any difference between this screen and my former 8ms 17 inch from Viewsonic. There may be a slight difference between 16 and 5 ms though... Anyways, i'd stick to the ultrasharp line since it has so many functionalities and the build quality is top notch.

How about the Sceptre X22wg-Gamer?

I followed the link to the Australian site just to look at the monitor... it seems to be gone from dell.ca (they only mention 20" and 24")

$299 CAD seems good to me. I've been eyeing the Sceptre x22 for a few weeks. $379 CAD seems like a good deal. 1200:1 / 5ms / HDMI / DVI / USB.

The only downside (according to new buyers) is that the stand is somewhat flimsy.

Comments? Reviews? Suggestions?

I got that sceptre... its preetty good id say... great for gaming, no ghosting at all.... watchin movies ... the stand is great for me since i have a sturdy desk not flimsy at all... I think the monitor is perfect for everyday use but maybe not for Number 1 picture quality in the world
