Dude, you're getting a list of Black Friday stuff you can print out

Here's a listing of all the tech-related items that our readers are likely to be looking for this upcoming Black Friday. The list covers all the hot categories this year including LCD TVs, GPS devices, notebooks and storage gear.

A number of the items on the list this year can be found at numerous brick and mortar (B&M) locations, but in order to keep the trim the list as much as possible, only the store with the lowest price is listed.

For those of you that don't know, Black Friday (the dayafter Thanksgiving) is traditionally seen as the official start to theChristmas shopping bonanza. Most B&M retailers open their stores at 5 AM onFriday to crowds of people who often trample and fight each other in a mad dash to the season's hottest items.

Nope, it's Walmart. The deal is one of their "Secret Specials", or whatever it is that they decided to call it.

I bought a PS3 from Wal-mart about a month back. Wal-mart has a 90 day return policy so I'm wondering if they will let me pick out the 10 free movies based on that fact.

No they wont. Stores will not do price matching for Black Friday sales.

Not sure what you mean by price matching but surely he can just take his PS3 back under the money back guarantee and then buy a new one that includes the offer?

Obviously it would then make more sense just to let him have the free discs, but I'm sure they'll make him jump the hurdle of having to bring in the PS3 to discourage it.

Thats what I meant - he wont be able to bring in a reciept and say he wants the current deal (since he bought his w/in 90 days). He will have to return his on like wednesday, then go back and stand in line on friday to buy a new one, and get whatever discs are left over.

What i mean by price matching is that you cannot buy one of the tv's today at regular price, then show up to the store on friday and try to get them to reimburse you the difference from the black friday sale.

Wal-Mart Electronics return policy is 45 days, and some products only 15 if it is opened or not at all if it is opened... They have a sign hanging. Also, Try taking your PS3 back and they will simply hold you up at the returns counter till the PS3 80 GB's are sold out. Then what you will have to get a 40GB in it's place. Look, I used to work at Wal-Mart when I was younger... They have plans in place for all of these occasions, now if they say sure we will let you trade it out on the promotion then it's because they are dumping a dead product. But usually the March Madness and Black Friday deals use special UPC's or limited supply items that are not the regular fare at the stores, that way they cannot be comped because they are not the same item as you purchased there less than 90 days ago.

To me....

The point is not that you saved $250-350 on a PS3. Its that you spent regular price, while getting a bunch freebie movies in which most of them people would never pay for. I say most - because there are a few OK ones. But I dont think most people would spent retail for any of the 5 free movies, much less any of the 10 free from walmart.

Just my $0.02.

The advantage of the 10 in-store movies is that you can pick any that you like, unlike the short list on the 5 free MIR movies. The bad side, as you correctly stated, is that Walmart doesn't have a good selection of BR, and you'll be lucky to find different 10 titles at all. So is it a deal if you get something for free that you don't want and won't use???

That's the main reason I'm not hopping on the deal. The Best Buy, pick 3 deal was much better, since you had access to their entire online catalog of HD-DVD movies.

Ahh i didnt realize you can pick anything. but then again - im sure they will have a very limited selection since they dont want to just give away what would be their profits on good movies.

I could swear Best Buy was offering something similar... anyway, yeah being allowed to pick 10 movies from Wal-Mart's stock would be horrible. The Wal-Marts closest to me have a terrible selection of HD-media, maybe 6-12 titles at most.

They are dumping the warehouse of the Blu-Ray titles that aren't moving real fast... Wal-Mart is going to an all HD-DVD line-up (plus the PS3 40GB of course). They will be dumping the warehouse of all BR titles and players.

Which I think is a bad idea as I would rather have the BR player instead of the HD-DVD player (even tho it is cheaper). I am a Blu-Ray fan but this is the way it is going to happen... after Christmas you will see Wal-Mart drop Blu-Ray. Unless the price of the BR players come way down.

Wal-mart cannot sell Hi-Def players because people down't know which to get. If WM chooses to only sell BR players then KMart will sell HDDVD players and undercut their prices. So walmart drops the more expensive player, removing doubt from the consumer's mind and then they make a purchase, also they drop the BR titles from the shelf so as not to confuse the consumer. The common Joe will not even realize there is a competing format as it isn't offered at WM which is the only electronics store that is in every town in America and most of the world. Face it, if there is only one Electronics store in your town then it IS a Wal-Mart, if there are 2 electronics stores in your town then you have a Wal-Mart and a (Pick any other store). The market has decided, and it is not in BR's favor. Price will be the deciding factor in the Hi-Def format war.

Actually I went to Walmart yesterday and counted the BD movies that would fall into this promotion. There were twenty total (in the store I went to) that met the requirements for them to be part of the ten free movies. Not too bad considering.

RE: PS3 deal...
By mdogs444 on 11/20/2007 12:27:54 PM , Rating: 2
But what are the titles?

RE: PS3 deal...
By theapparition on 11/20/2007 3:12:15 PM , Rating: 2
Really? Compare that to my local target which has over 50 titles, and best buy that has way over 100. I don't consider the HD version of Rattatoui (<-sp?) or any cartoons for that matter as a good selection. And if someone gave me Spiderman 3, I'd get better use out of it as a drink coaster. Out of the rest, I already have a good selection of titles, so not interested in what's left.

If you can find 10 that you want, then go for it.

Well I hear Walmart is bumping up their Blu-ray library for this sale, so I bet I could easily find 10 I would end up buying anyway eventually, but that's just me. Just cause most of the 5 free MIR movies suck doesn't mean that the Wal-mart stocked ones will all suck.

RE: PS3 deal...
By AlphaVirus on 11/20/2007 12:30:14 PM , Rating: 3
If you pick 5 movies that you like and the rest are all suck movies, pick the ones that would cost the most and resell them for cheaper. Ebay, amazon, craigslist, etc, I am sure you can find someone willing to buy it if you are selling it cheaper than the stores. Brand new resells dont lose value.
