"RD600" to finally arrive

DailyTech previously reported DFI’s motherboard roadmap which showed DFI’s RD600 based motherboard arriving towards the end of August. Nevertheless, DFI has almost readied its long awaited RD600 motherboard, and a few pictures of the board have already been leaked to DailyTech. The new motherboard will carry DFI’s established LANParty UT branding and cater towards enthusiasts. As previously reported the board is named LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G.

Early images show the LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G with three PCI-Express x16 and three PCI slots. Two PCI Express x16 slots will be full speed with sixteen lanes routed to each slot. The lane configuration on the third slot is unknown, though it most likely has around four lanes like other motherboards equipped with three PCI Express x16 slots. With its three PCI Express x16 slots it appears the DFI LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G is ready for ATI’s triple-play physics for hardware accelerated physics processing.

Other notable features include dual onboard Gigabit Ethernet, UV reactive slots and integrated high definition audio. As with previous LANParty UT motherboards, the LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G uses DFI’s Karajan audio module which moves the audio codec off of the motherboard PCB. This removes some electrical noise often associated with motherboard PCBs.

Expect the DFI LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G to arrive within the next month or two with support for Intel’s Conroe Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors. Pricing is unknown at the moment, though expect it to be north of $200.  Unfortunately, DFI's RD600 motherboard may be the last ATI-Intel motherboard to see the light of day.

is this board using a 3rd party pci or pciexpress sata controller??? if so then get out ur floppy disks for winxp and various other os/ installs...

lame.

also placement of the sata connectors?

lame.

Most likely you won't purchase this board or even use the 3rd PCI-express slot so why are you complaining?

just saying, less than ideal placement for sata ports... pretty poor... not a deal breaker,, but poor...

but sucks if it doesnt have native sata ports... can anyone confirm if all the sata ports are driven by that 3rd party promise chip? or are some/all of them a product of the southbridge?

ATI's site indicates that 4 are from the SB, 4 are from the promise.

If it's similar to SB400, you won't need a floppy for a non-raid windows installation. You might not even need one for a raid setup, I've never tried though.

The placement of the extra 4 ports aren't too bad. There shouldn't be a problem with the two above the slot and in most regular size cases you won't be able to fit a double-slot cooler there anyways as it's the bottom slot. You could loop the sata cables from the bottom two ports around and under the mobo though.

At least they're still including an ata port.

ah , i looked at the image again, those weird connectors inbetween the floppy and ide must be sata... ive never seen sata connectors like that before so i ignored them...

anyway so total of 8 sata ports? 4 native, 4 from the promise?

how many times were you dropped on your head as a little boy???

why would you even think that a chipset wouldn't have native SATA support.

some ppl are just too dumb....i mean really...lol

Please, tell us what does native SATA support have to do with WinXP drivers.

The reason SATA drivers are not needed is BIOS _emulation_ od SATA as IDE. It has nothing to do with native/non-native implementation.

Had M$ not screwed up the loading of HDD driver the way they did, no one would bother with such an emulation.

ouch... These DFI boards look aweful when not under UV light, but renital burn aside, they are great products.

I think those pics WHERE take under UV - hence the bluey reflections in all the metalwork.

possibly, but its not the same as being in the same (dark) room with UV lights on the mobo. these picss just make it look like a gay pimp-mobile

And a motherboard that glows in the frickn' dark doesn'n? :)

Haha! I also like the way that the UV reactive slot 'feature' is implicitly deemed more important than onboard HD audio,

Shame it's a pretty lousy photoshop job with the white background. I'm not saying I could do better, but I could probably have managed something almost good, and I'm an accountant!
Now back to the pr0n...

At least it's better than I'd care to do it, unless it were my product. But I'd at least pay someone to do a good job of it.

DFI needs to grow up

DFI should drop the glow in the dark UV, the "LAN party" moniker and start marketing their motherboards to adults.

Explain to me...
By feraltoad on 10/12/2006 12:54:09 AM , Rating: 2
If that's a DFI LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G, then why does it say "CFX 3200 Intel" on those pics? Is ATI gonna keep the 3200 moniker for it's top tier boards even with a new chipset? Or is CFX 3200 the revision of the crossfire system?

Intel as in Intel Edition, as there are Crossfire Xpress (CFX) 3200 AMD boards as well.

Drivers

Maybe it will be a great board initially, but I would not have a lot of faith in ATI putting in a lot of effort on future drivers though.

Been holding off on a C2Duo just for RD600. Then AMD bought ATI and the nerds at my local comp store said there would be no new ATI IE chipset.
Well I'm glad DFI atleast is going to make use of rd600 IE.I can only hope the chipset performs so well that others (i.e. Asus) create a design based on ATI's. Wish the ATI AMD thing would have waited till after RD600 was established since there is no current alternative to I965/975 that is in anyway appealing for crossfire. On top of that Intel roadmaps seem bleak with only refreshes of 975 and no new top tier chipset in the near future, and nothing for those who prefer ati video.

Never DFI again

I would never buy a DFI board again if my life depended on it.
5 months and there seems to be no fix for the hard drive controller problems on AMD CFX-3200 DR. http://www.dfi-street
