Cybernet ZPC-GX31 Inside  (Source: Cybernet)
The computer may be small and look old school, but its packed with modern components

For many computer users, the migration from desktops to notebooks is fully underway. This migration has a lot to do with computer users simply not having as much space for a desktop computer in their home or office.

A company called Cybernet has announced a interesting new computer dubbed a zero-footprint-PC. This is a bit of an odd nomenclature since the computer plainly has a footprint. What the maker means is that the entire computer takes up no more space than the keyboard, albeit a fat keyboard that is wider and thicker than normal.

Inside the keyboard enclosure sits modern computer hardware. Available CPUs include an Intel Core 2 Quad while other features of the ZPC-GX31 include an Intel GMA 3100 integrated graphics adapter, dual display capability, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM running at 667 MHz, gigabit LAN and a DVI interface.

Also included are a track pad for controlling the mouse, a memory card reader, and an optical drive is built into the side of the machine. Internally, the system has a pair of SATA ports for hard drives. You might not expect expansion options in a system this compact, but the rig does have one PCI Express slot and one mini PCI expansion port. Available operating systems are Windows XP, Vista and Linux.

Pricing for the system starts as low as $629.00.

It's interesting that a new company is making old school Commodore 64-looking computers, while Commodore is now making gaming systems that look like every other PC on the current market.

This has been out for over 4 years. Not news at all.
Not even new for this company. And this nothing but a laptop minus the monitor (bigger keyboard)

Would be cool when the next gen of Intel graphics come out, maybe I'll look in to getting one.

Actually, no. It is a square dance movement. Dos-ee-dos.

You meant CPM, not DOS. :D

If anything crashes, just type SYS 64738 or the tiny button on your final cartridge.

Are you sure you mean CPM? I thought that SYS64738 was the reset command in Commodore Basic.

It was :)

I never used CPM, though I know it was the closest thing to a DOS on a CBM machine, and could only run on a CMB 128 AFAIK, and I just owned the original, one and only CBM 64 which had an amazing 38911 basic bytes free :D

Ready.

There's room in there for up to 750GB of hard drive storage, 4GB of 667MHz DDR 2 memory, an optical drive and an Intel Core 2 Quad processor.

The optical drive sits in the side, just like the floppy drive did in the Commodore machine. If you’d rather surf the web than watch films though, then an extra $100 (£50/€65) gets you internal 802.11g Wi-Fi. An Ethernet port comes as standard

On the c64 DOS was stored on flash memory inside the unit. I want to see a casset unit for this bad boy though! And I sure do hope it has a cartrage slot!!! You know, I do own a C64 and I'm thinking about hooking it up to my 50" DLP ;)

I already play Super Mario 3, excite bike, castlevania and Metroied on it via my Wii... what makes the C64 so specail that I can't hook it up to the tuner on my HD TV :)

Well, it wasn't flash , but it was plain old nonflashable ROM.
(not EPROM)

I stand corrected... So used to having flash these days!

Not DOS, the rom of cbm 64 contained basic.

Remember: DOS = Disk Operating System.
And on c64s having a 1541 / 1571 drive was quite expensive at the beginning, so many of us had just cassette units :D

Memory positions 40960-49151 contained the BASIC interpreter, if I don't remember it wrong.

What a funny machine to program, I remember I got amused by just adding new commands to BASIC. I never had more fun programming in assembler than with that machine. (nostalgia teardrops here)

OPEN1,8,15
PRINT#1"N0:volume name"
CLOSE1
