What the PlayStation 3 should look like in red

The white PS3 fetched a pretty penny, and now red and silver want to join the party

Remember that white-colored PlayStation 3 that we were all dreaming about during Christmas? That unit fetched a pretty $1425 on eBay, which apparently is motivation enough for the PS3 painter to go straight back to work on creating a couple more custom colored consoles.

Up next will be a red PS3, which will look absolutely scorching if the final product looks anything like the design mock-up pictured to the right. A silver variant is also in the works.

Demand for Sony’s new console may have dropped off considerably following the holidays, but if the white PS3 is any indication, there are people out there willing to pay big bucks for a truly one-of-a-kind machine.

Can I get my PS3 with BBS wheels and NOS? I'm actually surprised we don't see more color in consoles. After decades of the same basic colors, the ubiquitous beige/white color of Nintendo we had for years, it is kind of nice to see something different.

Ahahaha, you are obviously a Sony Hater, and not even a good one at that.

First, their manufacturing is now in order (according to published reports), and secondly, these aren't colors from Sony, did you read the article?

LOL, hate is a harsh word. If I hated Sony, believe me I can think of worse things to say about the company. I don't hate Sony, I do distrust them.

As for saying the colors from Sony, I didn't mean it that way. I mean they are making colors and they are still having manufacture problems.

Guess the same published reports that Sony was creating during the rootkit fiasco.

I thought when you said "they" you meant Sony. When it was obvious sony isn't making any colors, a guy with autopainting skills is. My bad.

Hey, you keep hearing stories of PS3's sitting on shelves. Sounds to me like manufacturing is in order. Remember when only 200k was available at launch? Nobody thought they would sniff 500k by year end, well they did ship 1 million or so.

What's up with colors?

I love black, but every once in a while, something comes around that I prefer white (Chrysler 300C/PS3). Anyway, what's the big deal with offering different colors? Seems like the easiest thing but no one does it. It does matter, because, for the record, I don't own a 360 because it's not black.

In other words, Xbox360 is the oppressive fist of the white man, and PS3 is proud black underdog struggling against adversity to do what's right. Does anyone see Denzel Washington fulfilling the role of the PS3? Suggestions for the role of the 360? </boredatwork>

I would think that the oppressive white man would be played by an unknown actor. No one wants to be typecast as the oppressive white man. Oh, wait. Michael Richards. He'll take any job, and he's already auditioned.
