Corsair's TWIN2X2048-6400C3 takes advantage of Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP)

To coincide with the launch of AMD's new Socket AM2 platform, Corsair has announced the world's first DDR2-800 2GB memory kit with a memory latency of CL3. The TWIN2X2048-6400C3 modules operate at 800MHz and offer the industry’s lowest latencies of 3-4-3-9.

The TWIN2X2048-6400C3 takes advantage of the newly announced Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP) which was developed by Corsair and NVIDIA and the fine-tuned memory performance parameters that it affords. Here’s Corsair’s take on EPP:

These profiles elevate memory performance by taking full advantage of the additional memory parameters that are now added to the unused portion of the JEDEC standard Serial Presence Detect (SPD). EPP brings simplified overclocking success for entry level enthusiasts, and access to more advanced memory specifications and a higher recovery point for hard-core overclockers. To take full advantage of the Enhanced Performance Profiles, motherboards designed with a special BIOS can recognize the presence of EPP settings. Once these settings are enabled, the system boots directly into the memory’s specified settings and takes immediate advantage of the increased performance.

The TWIN2X2048-6400C3 is now from Corsair’s authorized distributors, resellers, retailers and e-tailers.

Higher speeds, lower latencies, and better prices. Looks like DDR2 technology is finally maturing.

I know every company has the right to toot its own horn, but almost a month ago I bought the Patriot PDC22G8000+XBLK, with rated specs of 3-4-3-8 for DDR2-800. So imagine the sense of deja vu I had when I read this May 23rd Corsair release that announced they have "the world's first DDR2-800 2GB memory kit with a memory latency of CL3." Uh, no, that'd be Patriot! Oh, you gotta love those marketing guys!

In any case, yes, it's great to see competition in the memory field. Keep on innovating, memory folks!
