Apple shows off more apps that utilize .Mac

Apple this week released a list of neat applications that all utilize its online service called .Mac. For those who are unfamiliar, .Mac allows Apple users to essentially extend their desktop experience into the online space. .Mac subscribers can use Apple's own web hosting to do things such as create blogs, websites, sharable photo albums and other online media. The list of applications is pretty extensive, ranging from fun and game to productivity and publishing.

Some of the applications include:
  • MacFamilyTree -- create networkable family tree
  • ProfCast -- create podcasts from presentations
  • Project X -- publish project calendars, sync projects on different computers
  • SOHO Organizer -- organize and share your personal work
  • Blog.Mac -- blog .Mac publisher
  • iSale -- create and manage eBay auctions and links them to .Mac
  • GarageSale -- create and manage eBay auctions and links them to .Mac
  • Quadrium -- create images
  • RapidWeaver -- website development
  • Bookpedia -- catalog and organize books, publish collection
  • Transmit -- .Mac, iDisk, FTP, client
There are other applications available that do more of what some of the above applications do. A subscription to .Mac costs roughly $100 USD per year. Those who are interested can also sign up for a 60 day free trial.

Apple's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) is quickly approaching and many analysts predict that Apple will introduce a number of changes to .Mac and other Apple products. Apple says it will unveil its next major revision of OS X, codename Leopard (10.5) at the show. Apple is also expected to showcase its pro line of desktops and servers as well as other hardware.
