World's fastest portable storage solution

If the already announced Sphere was all "show", then the company's next offering is all about "go". LaCie has pulled the covers off a new external storage device at CES 2014 that it claims to be the fastest on the market. The Little Big Disk is one of the first Thunderbolt 2 storage solutions on the market, and LaCie promises data transfer speeds of up to 1375MB/s.

“Thunderbolt 2 creates an entirely new way of thinking about 4K workflows, specifically the ability to support raw 4K video transfer and data delivery concurrently,” said Jason Ziller, Marketing Director for Thunderbolt at Intel. “LaCie’s Little Big Disk brings this advanced capability to a small, sleek and very portable storage solution that works with 4K streams in the field in ways previously not possible.”

The drive is several times faster than USB 3.0 drives that are on the market now and has a set of 500GB PCIe Gen 2 SSDs in RAID 0 configuration. The drive is optimized for efficient cooling while being as quiet as possible. LaCie uses a thermo-regulated fan to product almost no noise in some use situations.

LaCie says that the fast external storage solution is perfect for videographers that work with RAW files. The drive is able to capture 250GB of 4K footage in the field and transfer that data to a post production system in under 10 minutes.

The Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 will be available to purchase in Q1 2014 at an undisclosed price.
