CEATEC 2008 opened its doors at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Japan today. CEATEC is the world's most comprehensive exhibition of cutting-edge information technology and electronics technologies. CEATEC which stands for Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies will run from September 30 to October 4. The objective of CEATEC is to allow visitors to experience the newest technologies, products, systems and software for the digital network age.
A vast array of products is on display at CEATEC, and first impressions of these products are flowing on to the web on many technology related websites. DailyTech has compiled some of these summaries in to this article.
Akihabaranews, which is one of the publications on site at CEATEC, took a look at the BR23C, “Robotic Car” from Nissan. About the size of a large dog, the BR23C is able to detect and avoid crashing in to moving and stationary objects. This would be useful technology for a car company. Nissan pointed out although the technology is working in the BR23C it has yet to be included in any future cars.
Another product is the Sharp XS1 LED LCD television. The brightness of the LED backlight is 450cd/m2, and the monitor is only 2.28cm to 6.04cm thick. The TV tuner is external, and uses Bluetooth technology. The television comes in 52-inch and 65-inch models.
Akihabaranews also covered the Sony booth where many products were being shown. On display was the 40-inch KDL-40ZX1, the world’s thinnest LCD television at 9.9mm. Also on display was the 27-inch AMOLED TV. This television made news due to the fact the screen is flexible. The VAIO TT was also on display and is claimed to be the world’s lightest Blu-ray equipped laptop.
Engadget wrote about a concept phone from NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu that is able to split in to two separate parts. The separated parts communicate via Bluetooth and connect to each other using magnets.
Japanese tech site ITMedia +D took a look at the “Murataseiko-chan”, which is a small robot capable of riding on a unicycle. Using gyro sensors and the disc platter/wheel imbedded in the chest the robot manages to maintain its balance while riding a unicycle.
