U2`s Bono is out saving the world again by painting it red

Apple today announced the iPod nano RED Special Edition created by U2 lead singer, Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage business in the fight against AIDS.

Apple will contribute $10 from the sale of each iPod nano RED to the Global Fund to fund programs for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa

"We're ecstatic that Apple is giving their customers the choice to buy a red iPod nano and help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa," said Bono, co-founder of RED. "It's wonderful to see this incredible level of commitment from companies that are willing to lend their creativity in the fight against AIDS in Africa, the greatest health crisis in 600 years."

"Now customers can buy the best music player in the world and do something to help the world at the same time," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We're honored to work with Bono, RED and this team to contribute to an incredibly important initiative and help change the way people think about AIDS in Africa.

Aside from the red aluminum enclosure, the RED iPod nano is the same new product version that was unveiled a month ago.

Motorola also announced the availability of the new Red RAZR and SLVR in support of the initiative founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. The phones will be available in early November from Sprint and U.S. Cellular.

Though, my question is: How many people will buy these products just because of the $10 for a good cause? Like, it was the justification they needed. If that was your motivation, it would make more sense to donate the same amount of money to this fund instead of feeding apple and motorola.

In fact, I do know two people who were about to buy an ipod red for that reason, not because they absolutely definately wanted one in the first place...

Dont get me wrong, I'm not against it, it's s good initiative indeed.

hmm you know that bono is an idiot?, and i wouldn't say something like that on less this:
Bono to ireland: give more to 3rd world countrys!
Ireland: ok but we will have to start taking tax(grammar?).

and wtf bono moves all his money to another country with no taxes, well bono, where is the money supposed to come from?, if everybody did like him, we would have more problems!

and i pay my taxes and live in a country that helps 3rd world countrys, so i don't need some red ipod.. or a Motorola razr

What does red have to do with it?

How about shipping it in a condom instead?

That'd beat the hell out of those Mac-guy/PC-guy ads.
