Asus has four new mobile products on the horizon for
consumers and it should come as no surprise that Notebook Italia is the first to report on these new machines. The
Italian website was the first to break the news on new
Hewlett-Packard and Compaq notebooks last week.
The first new Asus notebook is the U6S.
This 12.1" (LED backlit, WXGA) notebook weighs just 3.3 pounds and can
operate for up to five hours with a six cell battery. When it comes to
hardware, Asus throws in a Core 2 Duo T7500 processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, NVIDIA
GeForce 8400M G graphics processor with 128MB of memory, 250GB 5400RPM HDD,
HDMI-out, 802.11a/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and 3G HSDPA.
Next up is the 14.1" F8S
which weighs in at 5.5 pounds. The F8S features a Core 2 Duo T7500 processor,
2GB of DDR2 memory, 1GB of Intel Turbo Memory, 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD
2600 mobile GPU, 250GB HDD, 802.11a/g/n and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.
The last new notebook offering from Asus is the G2S
Extreme Limited Edition. The 17.1" (WUXGA) notebook packs a 2.6GHz
Core 2 Duo X7800 processor, 2GB of DDR2 memory, 1GB of Intel Turbo Memory and a
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600 mobile GPU. Other niceties include a 200GB HDD, HD
DVD/DL DVD burner, analog/digital TV tuner, HDMI-out, 802.11a/g/n and Bluetooth
2.0+EDR.
The last new mobile offering from Asus is an update to its
sole UMPC model. The new 7" (800x480) R2E
ditches the Celeron processor used in the previous R2H and
instead uses Intel's
Ultra Mobile Platform 2007 (800MHz A110
processor + 945GU
Express Chipset). Switching over to the McCaslin
platform should net the R2E increased battery life with a slight drop in
maximum performance.
The R2E also features 1GB of DDR2 memory, an 80GB HDD,
802.11g wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 3G HSDPA, integrated GPS and
a 1.3MP webcam.
