UK Nest thermostat fans, today is your day to purchase

Nest says that within minutes of unveiling the Nest thermostat for the first time, it had dozens of people asking when it would land in the UK. The wait is now over and nest fans in the UK can now purchase the device.

The Nest Thermostat can be purchased for £179 with free home installation (an installer will come to your house within 10 days to install the device). The free installation offer is only available until April 8, so act fast. For £249, you’ll get the Nest Thermostat and a technician will come to your house within 3 to 4 days to install the device.

The version of the Nest Thermostat available in the UK has all the same features as the version that launched in the United States and Canada; however, a new stand is available for those that don’t want to mount the thermostat onto a wall.

Nest was recently purchased by Google for $3.2 billion in cash and kept all existing employees including CEO Tony Fadell

"It doesn't seem to do anything that my programmable thermostat can't do."

I think that's the idea. It does everything that the best programmable thermostats do, but without requiring any programming. Also the Nest's "program" is variable and adaptable, it isn't a rigid fixed schedule like a traditional programmable one is. Lastly, the Nest is internet connected, so you can manipulate it remotely.

I don't own one myself, but I can see the appeal of such a device.
