Apple may have a change of heart when it comes to adult content

Yesterday, we reported on Apple's decision to remove "adult" apps from the App Store due to complaints from women and parents. The removal of the apps came despite the fact that the iPod touch and iPhone have parental controls already in place to block the installation of such content for minors.

However, according to Mac Rumors, Apple may be having a change of heart. The site reports that developers now have a new "Explicit" category to choose from when submitting apps to Apple. It could also mean that the banned apps may find their way back to the App Store.

The move is expected to squash the backlash that Apple received when a reported 5,000 adult apps were removed. The negativity surrounding the move grew even more when it was noted that Victoria's Secret, Playboy, and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2010 apps were left unharmed by Apple's wrath.

If the parents doing the complaining took the time to monitor their kids instead of reacting to their actions.

Parents parenting? Don't be silly, we don't promote that kind of behavior in America. It is far more efficient to just complain to companies / governments to take away the bad things we don't want to teach our kids about.

I have never used the parental controls on the iPhone (I've never used an iPhone), but I can't imagine that kids would be unable to bypass it. Kids tend to be more tech savvy then their parents, and if they're not then their friends at school are. Nor do kids mind certifying they're over 18 when they are not. If I was a kid and I wanted sexy apps from the app store, I could find a way to do it. I understand Apple is trying to prevent kids from getting what they want, and it will reduce the numbers of kids that get it, but it won't stop the determined ones.

I think the parental controls can't be bypassed, as long as you choose a decent password for the App store (same as your iTunes password). Its a closed system, so unless the kid knows the password, you can't really bypass it.

What's funny is that I have to type in my passwordfor seemingly nomrals Apps, like the Ebay app, since there can be explicit items for sale there.

I am sure someone at an Apple store can set it up for them. And while it is certainly possible to hack the phone and lift the protection, I don't think the average minor is going to have the knowhow to actually do so.

If you like to decide how you use your devices, when you want to use them, don't by Apple.

It's that simple.

Apple doesn't want you by anything. I would like you to Buy what they sell, if that mets your fancy.

Apple changed their minds again. It isn't on my account.

I read half this article on my iPhone right before the battery died, I went to pull out my replacement battery and... oops.

Well anyways, I was waiting in line at the Apple Genius Bar pumping my fist with joy when I heard my phone was getting a new improved feature, explicit adult content. My wrist got tired from all the fist pumping so I went back to listening to my iPod shuffle repeat the same annoying song from Coldplay (Viva La FML)

I started wondering why my iMac still has a yellow screen after three replacements. It looks nice still, when it's turned off. I can't wait to get my iPad so it can't interface with the one USB port on my MacBook Air.

Life is good. Life is Apple.
