While many on-site stores are closing their doors to customers, like Walmart’s recent announcement of closing 269 stores including 154 stores in US, another online retail giant, Amazon, is stepping into this market. Amazon just announced that it is going to open new kind of grocery stores with no lines or checkout counters.

Amazon just announced that it is going to open new kind of grocery stores with no lines or checkout counters. Amazon Go, as it is called, will bring Amazon’s expertise in Deep Learning to the traditional shopping experience.
Apparently investors were excited by the announcement moving Amazon share price by 2.57% up.

The new shopping technology allows customers to walk in to a store, grab whatever they like and walk out without waiting in line or using cash or credit card for payment. It would be that simple flawless shopping experience. All you need is an Amazon account, a supported smartphone, and the free Amazon Go app.

Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology would automatically detect products taken from or returned to the shelves and keep track of them in a virtual cart. Once you are done with your shopping just leave the store and your Amazon account would be automatically charged. Considering that on average grocery line wait time is around 5 minutes per visit in major US cities and even more during busy hours, Amazon Go would save customers time stress free.

1,800-square foot store designed for busy customers will have essential grocery items as well as ready-made meals and pre-packaged Amazon Meal Kits.

Amazon Go is currently open only to Amazon employees in Seattle, WA as part of its Beta program, and will open to the public in early 2017.
