Horrible mistake

You left out 1 very important detail in the entire article, from the source:

quote:
Kindle now has battery life of up to seven days even with wireless turned on, a significant improvement from the previous battery life of four days. Battery life with wireless turned off remains at the previous level of up to two weeks.

The article reads like they actually managed to improve the entire performance of the kindle by 85% with a *firmware* update (this is what got me suspicious), while in reality, they managed to properly code something that was done horribly inefficient in the first place, and took 9 months to do it (since it works on something built in februari).

Might want to add that.

Also, the Kindle (as far as I know) does not have wifi. It uses Sprint's cellular network.

And might want to remove
quote:
The 85% battery life improvement includes when Wi-Fi is enabled,

since that is pretty explicitly stating that the improvement is also with the WiFi off.

These e-book readers are setting themselves up for failure. Amazon, Sony, and Barnes & Noble need to get together and standardize on one format that all will use. As it is, now, Amazon and Barnes & Noble are probably stuck with locking down their hardware tools at the expense of their bread and butter sales (content, i.e., books -- will they allow ebooks from other retailers on their platform?).
