The Equifax credit report company has disclosed that about 143m of US customers may have had information compromised in a cyber security breach.

Reported: Equifax said criminals accessed data such as Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses during the incident, also some UK and Canadian customer wee affected. The company discovered the breach of hackers accessed to the information between mid-May and July.

 

The hackers accessed credit card number of about 209,000, among other information.

 

The company said it would work with regulators in the US, UK and Canada on next steps. It is also offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection for a year.

 

According to a report; the Equifax chief executive Richard Smith said the incident was “disappointing” and “one that strikes at the heart of who we are and what we do”.

 

“I apologize to consumers and our business customers for the concern and frustration this causes,” Said Richard F Smith ‘chairman and chief executive’.
