From cell phones to hand held PCs, ATI gains incredible industry support for its Imageon family

ATI announced today that it has shipped over 100 million units of its Imageon media processors. The Imageon is popular in the mobile computing market and is often seen used in cell phones. ATI has recently seen a surge in the mobile market and production of cell phones and hand-held computing devices have been at an all time high.

"The convergence of mobile phones and consumer electronics technology is the cornerstone of ATI's vision for the handheld market and key to our success in reaching this important achievement," said Paul Dal Santo, Vice President and General Manager, ATI's Handheld Product Group.

ATI has a total of 6 Imageon processors but only the Imageon 2300 supports 3D acceleration. The other 5 have a mix of video acceleration and resolution support. The Imageon family is currently in use by a myriad of cell phone companies ranging from Fujitsu, LG, Motorola, Samsung and Siemens.

Can anyone tell me how image and on make up one word?

I don't think it's meant to be Image and On put together. It's suppose to be similar like Radeon.

well Rade isn't really a word so no real possibility for a combination of two words... imageon does have a possiblility of two words being combined. But you could still be right.

I think it's a play on the word "Imagine" but spelled so that it is like Radeon.

my vote is RADical plus EON
and
IMAGine plue EON

Of course using the definition of EON I must assume that the intention was #3, however given some of issues re availability perhaps #2 applies ;)
