Asus Eee Top  (Source: Asus)
Asus offers English speakers details on the Eee Top touchscreen PCs

ASUS continues on its trend of trying to offer a model of its Eee PC for every need. So far, ASUS has offered a hoard of netbook Eee models with different features, designs, and price points. ASUS also has a desktop Eee Box and has finally offered details on its Eee Top.

The ASUS Eee Top specifications have finally been announced for English speaking Eee fans. The Eee Top has been announced in other countries for pre-order giving us some information about the systems.

The Eee Top will come in two models: the ET1602 and the ET1603. The two machines are very similar and both offer a 15.6-inch touchscreen display, 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, card reader and a built-in carry handle.

Those wondering what the difference is between the models; the answer is not much. Both are identical save the graphics hardware. The ET1602 has integrated graphics and the ET1603 uses an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3450 GPU.

ASUS has yet to release pricing information for U.S. consumers or an actual availability date. The operating system used in the Eee Top is Windows XP Home. Both models also features integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi, speakers, and a 1.3MP webcam.

ASUS overlays Windows XP with something it calls EasyMode. EasyMode provides users with one touch access to often used portions of Windows without having to wade through all the Windows options. Users can choose whether to use EasyMode, which is good considering most users will be familiar with the older Windows OS.

ASUS has a new Eee netbook model that launched recently called the S101 that takes aim at the business user looking for portability.

Suspiciously similar to the iMac...

In that case, WTG ASUS!

Except that this is actually a usable computer and will likely be priced reasonably.

now if only they made a version with a battery...
and maybe even built-in keyboard, either slide-out or real foldable, but convertible to tablet...

really, i don't get it. why can't they make one model that has it all? why do they have a variant that gives every single thing i could need, but can't put all those things into one combination?

i've wanted a tablet convertible with decent graphic power for years.
the latest integrated chipsets are good enough, but now the 3450 would make me even happier.

i guess hoping they could also fit an optical drive is pushing things way too far...

Maybe your wants/needs just aren't that common and there's not much of a market for them?

If you want a more specialist machine I don't think Asus Eee is really the brand for you.
