AMD LIVE! Logo from March 2006 roadmaps

AMD LIVE! Logo from CeBIT 2006 Press Material
AMD's LIVE! program takes one more step towards a holiday 2006 launch

We just received word via AMD memos that the LIVE! initiative is finally starting to solidify.  The new LIVE! logo, featured right, will show up on all new systems built with AMD processors that fill the requirements for media and home entertainment systems.

AMD's LIVE! program is virtually identical in spirit and practice to Intel's Viiv initiative.  A few weeks ago, we detailed out the specifics of the two programs and came to the conclusion that both platforms have a ways to go to even compete with existing Apple alternatives.  LIVE! already has Vista Premium certification, but with the delay into 2007 the upcoming OS should have little effect on the 2006 launch of LIVE!.

System builders tell us they have been briefed on LIVE! and we may start seeing systems announced this summer already.  Expect an avalanche of AMD info over the next few weeks. AMD roadmaps claim systems will actually start shipping in early Q4'06, up from the initial "mid-2006" estimate from CeBIT 2006 documents.

Further documentation revealed that the one major difference between Viiv and LIVE! may be AMD's quick adoption of portable media players, or PMPs.  Intel's Viiv requires desktop-ish processors with desktop-ish chipsets for core support.  The Acer, Lite-On and Thompson devices featured in AMD documents are based on embedded chipsets.  As a result, LIVE! will be tiered into several different levels, though the extent of each of these levels was not revealed to us just yet -- we do know they are finalized, however.

AMD Marketing : Follow Microsoft

Windows XP -> Athlon XP
Windows Live -> AMD Live!

Coincidence? Or someone at AMD hoping to take advantage of Microsoft marketing? What's the marketing-speak for that sort of marketing anyway?

The shape of the pink stripe looks like a direct rip off of Intel's new logo anyways. Of course the 64 looks similar so contest that all day, but i'm liking Intel's marketing a lot better so far. In my opinion, the Viiv logo and even the name are done much better.

Well, Intel spends far more money on Marketing than AMD does. And for the last 5~ years, they've had too. I'll be the first to say AMD's marketing sucks, and that Intel is a marketing whore.

Interesting point, I bet AMD is riding on that "coincidence" quite favorably. You think a lot of the joe schmoe are like, "Windows XP must run more effeciently on an Athlon XP".. Or, "I have Windows Live, I bet I could benifit from using it on an AMD Live computer."

MS has a reason for using the 'LIVE' catch word since there online services are going active live html.

the only thing dumber than this logo is the idea of hooking up a computer to your tv

You do realize that your (old CRT) monitor is, essentially, a TV without cable connectors?

ok, how about i have no use for a computer in my living room connected to the monitor I watch movies and television shows on. I actually just saw a viiv demo where I work and I could see no compelling benefit to it.

ur wrong. even an old 15 inch crt monitor can get much better resolutions (my old one could get 1152x864) than a tv. A normal non plasma or lcd hi-def tv is only like 800x600.

Your 15 inch CRT isn't 52", like my HD DLP projection is. A 15" CRT also isn't meant to be viewed from 9 feet or more.

"What's that subtitle say?!" :)

Also, HDTVs do not have 800x600 resolutions. My HDTV has a 1280x720 resolution. Newer models have 1920x1080 resolution.

I have over 100 DVDs stored on my media center PC. I record and watch high definition television with it. There are huge benefits to having a media PC in your living room.

I thought Core was a bad name, but then AMD had to one up Intel with a terrible logo :)

Just because a blind kindergartner with A.D.D. designed it while simultaneously running around the room brandishing scissors, doesn’t mean you should knock it. Applaud the young lad for his attempt at creativity, then talk his parents into directing him towards a new career in the future :)

Nothing wrong with pink, as long as it isn't my t-shirt. Pants are OK.
