Say hello to the Imageon 2298, 2294 and 2192

AMD today announced the latest additions to its Imageon product lineup: the Imageon 2298, 2294 and 2192 media processors. These new Imageon media processors target handheld and mobile phone devices.

AMD touts the Imageon 2298 and 2294 as a high performance media processor that delivers high-quality audio and video quality with multi-tasking capabilities for handheld devices. The lower Imageon 2192 caters to mainstream consumers and devices.

Features of the new AMD Imageon media processors include:
  • Ultra-Fast, High-Resolution image processing supports up to 12 Mpixel camera functions
  • DVD-Quality Video Playback and Recording with Stabilization for a high-quality, camcorder-like experience
  • High-Definition Audio turns the phone into a portable music player
  • TV Output allows viewing of videos and photos on any TV or projector
  • Mobile TV capability for watching digital TV programs on the go
  • Video Telephony with echo cancellation and image stabilization
  • Video Transcoding converts to various video formats and adjusts frame rate for over-the-air video messaging
  • Error Resiliency compensates for transmission errors to help provide seamless over-the-air video quality.
Expect handheld manufacturers to adopt the new AMD Imageon media processors in products early next year. It is unknown which manufacturers will take advantage of the new Imageon media processors, however, BenQ-Siemens, HTC, LGA, Motorola and Samsung currently make use of previous AMD Imageon media processors.

It sucks when the little 96x96 (I may be wrong) pixel color display lags on my cell phone.

This is gonna provide for some intense competition for the handheld/mobile devices market.

This would indeed benefit all handheld users. :)
