To bring you Sonic Focus Adaptive Dynamics technology

Analog Devices, manufacturer of SoundMAX integrated audio solutions, has partnered up with audio technology licensing company Sonic Focus to deliver Sonic Focus Adaptive Dynamics technology. Sonic Focus Adaptive Dynamics technology enhances audio quality by improving brilliance, depth and warmth of all PC audio. This includes various audio required tasks such as music, movies, gaming and even watching videos on YouTube. Adaptive Dynamics technology improves audio output for stereo and multi-channel speaker systems.

President and principle analyst for the Enderle group, Rob Enderle, made bold claims that “Analog Devices has long championed better motherboard audio with SoundMAX. And with Sonic Focus, a mainstream PC can reproduce sound that rivals custom audio equipment.” Current SoundMAX users with Windows XP seeking to upgrade to Sonic Focus Adaptive Dynamics technology will be disapointed as the software package will only be available for Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Vista operating system. Nevertheless, Sonic Focus Adaptive Dynamics technology combined with a SoundMAX integrated audio codec brings the following features:
  • Restoring sound quality to compressed audio ? Today’s popular audio formats, such as MP3, use compression to create smaller music files. Sonic Focus ADRS (Adaptive Dynamic Refrinment SystemTM) analyzes compressed audio streams in real time, then restores and enriches the sound to emulate the original performance qualities during playback on a PC.
  • Up-mixing from a stereo source for multichannel playback ? 5.1 and 7.1 speaker systems are becoming more popular and affordable. The Sonic Focus Extrapolator™ creates lifelike, surround-sound experience from a stereo source by adding detail to the sound for each speaker individually using physical modeling, not simply by spreading out the sound among the speakers.
  • Down-mixing from a multichannel source for stereo playback ? Using stereo speakers or headphones to listen to 5.1 source material is common for activities like watching DVD movies while on a plane. Downmixing from 5.1 to two channels can often obscure the dialogue. Sonic Focus XMatrix™ Virtualization expands the sound stage and creates a virtual center channel to emphasize and clarify dialogue, providing a thoroughly enjoyable movie experience even at low volume.
  • Custom listening experience ? Through convenient presets for different audio uses, listeners can refine the audio output to match their tastes and their environment. Controls are easy to use for the novice but allow the audiophile to tune extensively.
Sonic Focus Adaptive Dynamics technology is currently shipping to PC OEM and ODMs for Windows Vista only. Previously Sonic Focus technology was previously only available to motherboard and system manufacturers. This is the first time Sonic Focus has been licensed to an audio codec manufacturer. Analog Devices is expected to make an official announcement regarding the subject matter early next week. DailyTech previously reported Analog Devices alleged Realtek high definition audio codecs were not rendering true EAX audio.

We all think our music sounds just awesome, we even have all the little EQ settings just perfect from years of tweaking. Perhaps this new tech would improve sound quality as we know it.

Kind of like a car, you dont think the steering is bad, but replace its critical components and you are shocked, turns smoothly and rapidly without any lag, play or resistance.

As with all gadgests, gotta see it (and hear it) to believe it..

Cant wait to see some tests and read some feedback on this.

I've used it on Intel Desktop Boards with Intel Audio Studio. Sonic Focus does a decent job of cleaning things up.

A variety of companies have been doing research on this topic for many years. Take Bose for example. They have been researching the way our brains interpret sound, and then applying this research to their products. I believe they call it physcoacoustics. Anyhow, the focus is not Bose, but the type of in depth thinking that engineers have been doing to enhance our lifestyle.

Everytime I read about some concept that is applied to affect our lives, I get excited. That is the reason I read this site. Pure entertainment.

"If you look at the last five years, if you look at what major innovations have occurred in computing technology, every single one of them came from AMD. Not a single innovation came from Intel." -- AMD CEO Hector Ruiz in 2007
