I'm curious

Why do people say its a con when gaming Keyboards/Mice aren't wireless?

Am I the only one who wants wired I/O devices for my gaming rig?

I can see where a wireless keyboard/mouse would be nice for a HTPC but for anything else, do you really need it to be wireless? I mean whats the advantage? Generally speaking you're going to near your computer when you're using it anyway so whats the advantage of wireless I/O devices?

Well obviously with a wireless mouse you're far less restricted in your movements (also less likely to snag the wire on something mid-game). Keyboards should stay wired IMO but I must admit I'm using a wireless keyboard and it's fine.

I've never had an issue with snagging the wire, and I just don't see the point of paying for a gaming mouse/keyboard, then still having to buy batteries every month or so. Especially when gaming peripherals are generally a lot more expensive than non gaming peripherals. The initial cost + monthly supply of batteries. And even rechargeable ones won't last forever and have to eventually be replaced. And they usually cost more initially than the non rechargeable ones.

And even then you still run the risk of batteries dieing mid game which just doesn't seem like a good thing. I mean yeah, maybe for an office rig,where you'd do alot of typing on and you might want to rest the keyboard in your lap. Or like I said a HTPC where you're all the way across the room. But for a gaming rig, a computer specifically built to give you the advantage in your frag fest of choice?

Look at the hardware canucks review on the Raven GAMING mouse. Okay its a mouse designed for gaming, not office use, not HTPC use, its designed to be used in game, along with some light duty general computer stuff. With that in mind, do you want the possibility of lag, the possibility of batteries dieing mid game? Any of that if you are looking for a gaming specific mouse. I personally wouldn't. So why is it a con that it isn't wireless?

If you've only ever used wireless stuff that requires batteries I could see why you wouldn't like it. The high end devices with a built in battery is were the good stuff is. My keyboard lasts over a month with a 1hr charge for example. No lag either.

I can see what you're saying, there shouldn't be any reason to use a wireless peripheral if you're not moving it about but if a wireless keyboard is just as good - better even - than a wired counterpart then why not clear some of the clutter.

I see what you're saying. But you're not really getting rid of the wire, I mean you have to plug it in to charge. So you're replacing one wire with another. And thats assuming that your charger is also the receiver. So really all you're getting is the extra niftyness of being able to type from across the room. Which unless you have a really big screen, used gigantic font or had a tiny room, you wouldn't be able to see anyway.

I just don't see the point of buying a wireless keyboard/mouse since its pretty much guaranteed that I'm going to be sitting at my desk anyway. Plus I'm fairly certain that I'd lose it at least once a month. (My computer room like many other peoples I've seen is a mess)

But if you like that kind of thing more power too you. I'm just trying to find what advantages there is to buying wireless peripherals vs. wired. A one centimeter wide wire running across my desk is not going to ruin my day or really make that much of a difference if its suddenly not there. Considering that I'm already running a power wire and vga cable to my monitor, which is right infront of me not to mention speakers. So I just join the keyboard and mouse wires and create one big bundle heading to my PC.

If it adds some needed functionality over any other keyboard/mouse or was cheaper than any others I could find. I could see getting wireless. But all in all I'm not suddenly just gonna jump up and buy one cause it gets rid of a wire or two.

I use a logitech G5 and I may never use a wireless gaming mouse. I really prefer a wired connection and don't want the added weight of the battery pack. I have adjustable weights so I can control the precise feeling. You can't delete half the battery... Furthermore, any serious gamer has the wire of their mouse positioned in a way so there is no chance of a snag. Personally I have mine suspending and just enough slack hangs for the amount of travel I need.

I used a wireless mouse for a while until it went dead while I was playing Battlefield - Gaming session over. I'm not sure who the people who have trouble with the mouse cord for gaming are but I don't know any of them - the wireless keyboard/trackball is great on the HTPC and the wireless mouse is great for the laptop - my gaming rig will remain wired.

you certainly arent the only one!!

wireless stuff, has that certain "lag" about it, imo...only just, but enough to be noticeable (like going from a crt to lcd for gaming..)

cant stand it for my games..
