Awesome deals on the Q6600 & Raptor! Nekkid HD's are "dead sexy" ;-)

Yeah, that Raptor is mighty tempting. Hell, a 'normal' 150GB Raptor costs nearly $200 at The Egg right now. There is an M-I-R that drops it down to $165 though.

Maybe a new raptor with perpendicular recording is coming and WD wants to clear out the old models?

I hope so. Some of the newest 7200RPM drives are catching up to Raptors, especially compared to the older 36GB models. Actually I don't really care if its perp or not, as long as they get the data density safely higher and as a result boost transfer rates and put Raptor drives back into the lead.

If they don't, maybe a competitor will. That would get WD's butt into gear.

Yeah, so tempting I broke my nearly decade long boycott of Best Buy and ordered one. It was backordered, but I got a UPS tracking number today, so I guess they found some more. Ironically, I just ordered a new case with no window on the side, so I guess the see through drive will work unseen. I guess at least I'll know it's there . . .

The page for the raptor says free shipping. I'm going to do in store pickup anyway seeing as the Best Buy is right across the street.

Maybe it should be listed in the article as $159.99 shipped (plus tax)?

It looks better now. The retail box comes with a secureconnect cable:

It actually has a review =)

Does anyone that owns a raptor know if the connectors work fine with normal cables (are the connectors as good as on other hard disks). I'm one of those strange people that like all their cables to match.

I've had no problems using standard SATA cables on my Raptor for the past couple of years. I didn't even think about it until you mentioned it. The secureconnect cables looked interesting, but not needed as long as you don't yank on cables or otherwise brute force things. I mean shoot, I always thought ATA cables were worse in the hands of an amateur. I've had people bend pins on them, which I've had to gently pry back. Once someone even managed to completely pull out several pins. It wasn't worth the effort to repair that old POS - HD went in the trash, new HD for $60.

what he said. my 36gb raptor was my first sata drive and now it's the only drive I have that doesn't need sata power connectors!

Laptop deal...

There was a good laptop deal posted, I followed the link, the price was a lot higher, came back to DT, and it has magically disappeared.

The price was much lower this morning. Then the discount "mysteriously" disappeared from the CC website.

So I removed the entry to avoid the inevitable flogging :-)

bestbuy always has a good deal on the raptor it seems. I picked 1 up from them about 8 months ago at only $199.99 (instore pickup = no tax or shipping)at the time I thought was an awesome deal for a retail store. I had checked frys and microcenter and both places were no less then $240 plus tax. I have never even seen newegg go lower then say $190...anyway awesome deal
