This puppy would be a match made in heaven for a 30". I am so glad to see ATI/AMD graphics cards coming up to par. Nvidia has been on top long enough and needs some competition. And competition equals lower prices and a benefit to the consumer. Both in price and new technology. The GTX 260/280 debuted at $350/$650? And then along came the 4850/4870 at $200/$300 and just blow things back in Nvidia's face. The economy sucks right now and people want a deal, and ATI gave it to them. The 4870 may not be the top dog, but for the price you just can't beat it on the top end. Actually the 4850 is a better deal price/performance wise, but I'm not a fan of the single slot coolers. I've had an XFX 8800GTS/512 for some time now and am happy. The $280 I spent was well worth it, however the new GTX's seem to be a bit much for what you realistically get. I'm not going to run CUDA, just games, give me a game card. Thanks ATI!

I've never understood why people make such a big deal over CUDA when AMD's cards have equally capable and in many ways identical C-based programming capability. That's why people have gotten PhysX working on AMD cards.

At any rate, if you want a 4850 with a dual-slot cooler, I wouldn't be surprised to see some non-standard versions of the card coming from manufacturers as soon as AMD stops limiting its supply of the GPU, which it has been doing to get rid of the supply of reference version cards that were put together for the release.

Nvida was quick to do two price drops in 4 days, but their high end cards are still $550+ and what about CUDA?

Well, there's your answer, CUDA will be supported under ATI cards down the line. Now, that AMD/ATI is finally on the positive side, I hope they'll revamp their quad cores to be more competitive with the Intel's even if it doesn't out perform the Intel's at least be on par.

Confused, reaches for salt

Did the reviewers get different versions of the card?

Two site say it's PCIe 2.0, another says it's not but the gpu-z screen says it is. Their results are inconsistent with each other.

its an PCI-e 2.0

the card is an 1 GB per GPU (wish thay stop miss nameing SLI/gx2 CF/X2 based cards with the bigger number when it can only use the per GPU ram size)

at least with the X2 it has 1GB per GPU so not to be limited by that any more for newer games when thay start to use more then 500MB of that buffer
