Lian Li Tyr PC-X500 Case review

Did anyone stop to think that this design puts most of the weight at the top of the case? Very poor design choice in that respect, even worse when you consider that the optical drives are side mounted, creating additional instability with this type of design. The mounting point for the hard drives also creates issues with drive cable routing, not mention the probable issues with larger power supplies. This reminds me of a lot of products that were designed and approved by engineers without the input of technologists or technicians. Looks pretty, real world useage is a different story.

Don't most cases have PSU & drives at the top?

I think they should have left off the external 3.5" to leave more room for the PSU.

They do have a larger version too, the X2000, which has 6 internal 3.5" bays at the bottom of the case.

Actually, the trend on better cases has been to locate the PSU at the bottom of the case, and the vast majority of cases normally have the hard drives located at the front below the mid line of the case, ensuring easy routing of cables and cooling by airflow entering the front of the case.
This case seems to have sacrificed practical design for shallower external dimensions. The placement of the heavier components at the bottom adds to the stability of the case. As someone who owns a high end Lian-Li case, I can appreciate their attention to detail in manufacturing yet still deplore some of the design compromises they tend to make. My V1100 case is pretty and well made, but it is a PITA to work in, due to insufficient space for the power supply, mediocre wire routing features and less than optimal cooling airflow.

I have a Lian-Li PC-7077B. It's cavernous, but because of that it's hard to keep the interior cool. The front fans are a significant distance away from the CPU/GPU area, and they get partially blocked by hard drives.

In this case the front fans are very close to the motherboard, and they aren't blocked by anything. That may lead to better cooling.

Just flip the case upside down.
