No Blu_ray on an entertainment PC

Why'd they even bother with the HDMI out.

HDMI is a digital output which is superior to the VGA out that also exists on the laptop. Furthermore HDMI also includes audio on the same cable making things tidier and easier to manage.
The laptop itself features a graphics card that supports video decoding on the GPU which allows it to do a pretty good job on HD content, so were you to get some high quality video you could output it to an HDTV with ease through HDMI. Also, I'd argue that we're more than likely to see an external Blu Ray player in the future, much like how external DVD players are now freely available.

It's a smaller cable, includes audio and gives high quality digital video, why not include it?

In fact, I wouldn't even consider buying a laptop anymore that doesn't have HDMI. Anyone who has ever hooked up their laptop to a television via s-video/VGA/DVI + an audio cable knows that it can be a true pain.

In fact a truly good laptop would come with the HDMI output as well as finding a way to include a "breakout box" which you plug into the HDMI, which would include RCA/Svid/Component/DVI/VGA/optical audio. This would require circuitry in the breakout box, such as a DAC, but would be the perfect way to market such a laptop as an HTPC as well.

Just for clarification, overseas Canon labels their Powershot slim models IXUS. In the U.S., the model is the Canon SD1100 IS. They are the exact same model, just different labeling.
