Smash Bros. Brawl dual-layer disc too much for some Wiis to handle

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Dual-Layer Disc Gives Some Wiis Grief
While millions of Wii gamers will be beating each other up in Super Smash Bros. Brawl in due time, some who have purchased the game are encountering difficulties in getting it to run. Nintendo has erected a support page made in response to some players unable to run Super Smash Bros. Brawl on their Wii consoles. Nintendo explains: “Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive.” The solution? Send your Wii off to Nintendo.

Warning: Dreamcast.com Site is Phony
The Sega Dreamcast was a console ahead of its time, having its life ended by market forces and the emerging juggernaut known as the PS2 hype machine. The faithful will never forget the good times that the Dreamcast bought them, but Sega apparently has moved on and let it dreamcast.com domain name lapse into the hands of others. Whoever owns the dreamcast.com now has a site that appears very official, but is anything but. The new dreamcast.com site is asking for personal information, as well as Dreamcast console serial numbers. Sega said that it is now considering “appropriate measures” to take down this fraudulent site.

Mass Effect DLC is Here
Those who can’t get enough of Mass Effect on Xbox 360 will get another 90 minutes of gameplay at the cost of 400 Microsoft Points ($5) and 253MB hard drive space. Players who don’t have a mid-game save will have to start from the beginning to access the Batarian race and the 50 new achievement points that come with it.

Mark Wahlberg Pictured as Max Payne
A few months ago, Mark Wahlberg was pegged as the leading man in the Max Payne movie. See Popsuger and Dark Zero for a few of the latest images.

Mila Kunis Cast in Max Payne Movie
In other game-related Hollywood news, actress Mila Kunis (Family Guy, That 70s Show) will play “an assassin who teams up with the title character to avenge her sister's death” in the upcoming Max Payne movie, according to Variety.

I'm just going to point out that Nintendo didn't erect the smash bros support page in response to user problems, Nintendo already knew there was a problem and it was up already. Also, when I bought smash bros last week it came with a little piece of paper saying there might be an issue and instructions on how to get support for it.

More evidence of a fantastic company. It must not be a widespread problem if they still shipped the game. Which reminds me, I need to pick up my copy.

I've had occasional problems with Wii Sports also. I picked up Smash Bros., popped it in, and got an error at first. I wasn't aware of this issue yet so just assumed it was the same problem I have with Sports every now and then. I ejected it, put it back in and it was fine.

When have I ever badmouthed MS? On the contrary, I'm usually an MS supporter.

another thing that is really annoying: people seem to hate irrational accusations, but seem to applaud a well thought out rebuttal....

You seem to bash a lot of people at Dailytech. Why don't you target the articles instead of the people? What is up your ass anyway?

What sets Nintendo apart from the rest is their willingness to help and satisfy their customers when a problem arises. They do not have the arrogance of either Microsoft or Sony who would prefer to not aknowledge problems until it became painfully obvious to everyone. In my world, people get rewarded for being proactive and I think it shows when people stand by Nintendo.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I have to point out that if it was Sony who did this you KNOW the fanbois would be all over it crying "OMG THEY KNEW ABOUT TEH PROBLEM AND SHIPPED IT ANYWAY WTF!!!!!"

I'm going to have to agree... I even think this is unacceptable. And if it was X360 or PS3 either PS3 or X360 fanboys respectively would be all over it. Not a fan of the Wii as I think technologically it holds the other consoles back but I'm at least happy that I can always send mine back if I get this problem with mine :).

I agree in part because I think some people casually forget that the NES way back when had similar issues. However, Nintendo does have a track record of offering superior technical support. They stand by their products. For the record, I don't own a Wii.

Can people please quit whining about the Wii having inferior graphics. If people think graphics are everything, go and rent Lair. The Wii isn't targeted at videophiles.

Price is what holds the other consoles back technologically, not a competitor's product. MS and Sony could push hardware out today to match current top-of-the-line PC's, but they would only be able to sell them to a select few until the price came down--just like any new product pushing the technological edge.

I'm a big Nintendo fan because they produce a lot of great games and their Wii console/games have great prices compared to the other 2 current consoles. However, when you compare the Wii's storage, online-play, and graphics capability with the 'other' consoles, it's quite obvious MS and Sony have ploughed ahead despite of Nintendo.

As far as GAMES go, there are definitely some developers who will hold back on graphics (etc) so they can port to both Wii and 360/PS3, but there's no current shortage of 360 or PS3 exclusives right now, either.

I had problem loading the game... I took my trusty air can, a quick simple blow in the disk slot of the Wii resolved the issue. My Wii is usually inside a TV stand closet... so it is always clean (yes I do clean the TV stand), however moved recently and I think dust got in the lens. Anyway, you should try that, now Super Smash Brothers works great.

Mila Kunis as Mona?

I don't see that working too well. She's got the sexy, but she's small and her voice is too annoying to sound deadly.

Mona's sister.

Megan Fox would be a better candidate because I cannot picture a girl who voices Meg on Family Guy as Mona or her sister.

Also Mark Wahlberg may have the look for Max Payne (four brothers) but Max's voice in the game is deeper than Mark's.

Misdirected woo

For Max Payne director John Wu would have been an interesting choice.

To quote Homer Simpson "...and *no* funny stuff; and by funny stuff I mean, hand holding, goo-goo eyes, misdirected woo (which is pretty much any John Wu film...)"

We all know games to movies and movies to games rarely work.

The difference is that Max Payne has a plot thicker than my mom's oatmeal. Whereas most other games (Tomb Raider, Doom, etc.) just have a plot duct-taped to the action.
