I was looking at this review and couldn't believe what I read...

quote:
Looking head on, we've got three connectors, a DisplayPort, Dual Link DVI connector and a blue one. A quick look in the manual told me that this blue one is a VGA port. Not sure who’s using that one these days, but figure it's the same crowd who are still using VCRs as well.

What is this, some 12 year old kid? A "blue" connector and he had to look in the manual to see what it was for? He isn't sure who uses VGA connectors these days?

Indeed.

I for one still use the VGA port. Why waste a perfectly good 17" LCD which only has a VGA port?

Couldn't agree more. I have a HD 5770 and use the DVI to VGA converter for my trusty ViewSonic 22" monitor, which displays 1920 x 1080 with no problems.

I still use an old VGA flatscreen 19" from Acer as a second monitor. It's an awful piece of hardware, but still handy for keeping my IRC and browser on the side.

The author at Tweaktown tried to be funny. Instead, it makes him look like an arrogant douche bag.

And then his editor wants to push for a "payrise!"

Hardware Canucks review of a 5450 included a benchmark of FarmVille

It's like those who says who needs IDE when you have SATA.

Well if it only has 1 DVI and "Display port" yeah you're gonna need the VGA if you want a dual-monitor setup and don't have at least 1 monitor with "Display port" (and who does, it's a stupid format).

That just reads like he's incredulous over the inclusion of a D-sub instead of HDMI, which would have made so much more sense for a card in this category.

Include a converter for the outdated crap.

It truly is like motherboards, as mentioned earlier. Why not simply have a daughter PCI-E 1x card with all the IDE/FDD/Parallel & Serial port connectors instead of wasting valuable motherboard space and putting my damn SATA ports under the VIDEOCARD?!

Ahem, sorry, get carried away sometimes.

I'd be confused at that as well, considering the Radeon HD 5450 would most likely be used in a HTPC of some type. But to ponder what the blue connector is and that anyone using a VGA connector must be using VCRs as well?

That just screams immaturity and he shouldn't be putting that in any sort of professional review. I sure hope that Tweaktown doesn't pay him at all.

I did check out the Contact page at Tweaktown and he does look rather young.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But I beleive there is no electrical difference between DVI and VGA? perhaps there is a bandwidth difference but it doesn't matter a lick (in fact vga is better as it's more customizable, DVI just automates everything) under 1920x1080. Up until recently there was no reason to use DVI except to pay the man an extra dollar to upgrade your wires (20 bucks for DVI chords???).

It seems to me the SSD review is the more important news. Toms says to wait for the already announced 5500 series, which should fall in between the 5750 and the 5450. This card looks like it would be useless for enthusiasts, and possibly obsolete when the 5500's come out.

I want a faster SSD! Oh wait, I don't have $800. I want a cheaper, faster SSD!
