When you gotta iTune, you gotta iTune

Apple recently reported record sales of online music with its iTunes and outstanding sales at its retail locations (approximately 150 stores). While manufacturers who try to open store front locations tend to receive poor sales results, Apple has done well enough that it has now decided to make its Manhattan location a 24 hour operation.

Users will be able to visit the store front at anytime during the day or night and purchase whatever Apple products they desire (provided that the product is available of course). Apple hasn't commented on whether or not this will be an ongoing trend.

I almost want to go up there just to see what the foot traffic is like at 3:30am. I love my iPod, but damn apple... you might make a smidge more sales by letting us install XP on the macs instead ;)

As the Spin Doctors say "What time is it? 4:30! Not late, no , no just early...early!"

It's not about buying Apple products. . .

Based on some of my experiences, yes. Of course it wouldn't be by my choice; 4 a.m. could just be the time you finally get to meet with a "genius."

I suppose a 24-hour store could come in handy for those with unconventional work hours, too.

Yeah. Like Vampires majoring in Art and Design. Or psychos. And drunks. And Pshycotic drunks. Hell, If they're selling coffe, booze or both I'm there.

OOOH! 24 hour iTunes Kiosk. That would kick ass. (that litterally just came to me while typing)

24-Hour?

OK, I love my Mac and I confess that after moving from the UK to Belgium I really miss stores that open late or on a Sunday. While I have occasionally had need of a 24-hour pharmacy, I can't say that I see much need for a 24-hour Apple Store. There were days in the past when I'd happily stay out until the early hours of the morning but that was typically because I'd been at a party or clubbing with friends. However, while we'd often buy something late at night it typically came in the form of a curry or chips - I don't ever recall anyone mentioning a desire to go and buy some consumer electronics...

Still, maybe things are different in the US and people do have a burning desire to buy an iPod at 4am.

it's manhattan, practically the busiest and most expensive (second to tokyo) plot of real estate on earth. prolly worthwhile to go 24hrs.

extended hours

I think they could do just as well if they expanded their hours, say open at 8am and close at 2am, better than any other electronics store i know. 24 hour is just ridiculous

If you've ever seen the mac freaks that "hang out" at the apple store in SOHO you'd understand.

There is costvise no reason by closing between 2 and 8am.

Seems reasonable to me.

I'll tell you for the "City that doesn't sleep" there really is nothing to do here after 4am. I mean that 4am-8am lull in activity really puts a damper on my night. Thank God, Thank God I can now, after getting fully ripped and kicked out of a bar, I can go and buy that Ipod I've so desperately wanted.
