Seems like all the review sites latched onto the 9600GT faster than they did the 3870X2. That's good though, I hope it drives the 3000 series down in price, I need to replace this aging X700pro 256mb card. heh

Actually, there has already been a price drop on the durrent 3000 series ATI cards, at was announced yesterday. Not all models and retailers reflect it yet, but they are starting to show. For instance I saw a Sapphire 3870 down to $189 at NewEgg.

Newegg is actually down to $184 if you put it in your cart. They're selling below MSRP.

If you are going to play lots of Company of Heroes, that game seems to run much better on the HD38xx cards.

ATI has the advantage of being "futureproof":
1. It has DX10.1 and more important, SM4.1 hardware which can have further performance improvements than SM4.0, especially with global illumination that is SM4.1/DX10.1
2. Vista SP1 brings DX10.1
3. With CrossfireX you can mix with a HD3850 that almost make it as fast as 2 HD3870's and even mix it with a X2! I highly expect it to be CrossfireX compatible with upcoming RV7xx cards.
4. It has full VC-1 encoding (popular high quality codec) in hardware.

But, if you are a bit patient, wait for the RV7xx series in summer time, that will obliterate the current generation's performance.


Headset

I love that the price of high end GPU's have come down so much lately but that's not nearly as exciting to me as a wireless headset would be.

Am I the only one who's grown painfully tired of rolling over and ripping out the cord of his headset?

Mine doesn't really bother me much in that respect. My biger problem is the cord getting tangled up with all teh other wires I have around my rig.
