OK, I don't know if you actually missed it, but I found it to be a very interesting review. It's a Cell-based PCIe 1X video transcoder that comes with an Adobe Premiere plug-in and TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress. The transcoding/encoding performance was excellent and so was the image quality. Much better than CUDA and certainly better than AVIVO. Even though it costs over $150 (depending on software loadout), it looks to be worth it for people that do a LOT of encoding.

A lot of people read Toms Hardware -- it's Anandtech's biggest competition and that's why these daily reviews never link there.

2. ... but not well. If you had read it you would know that the device can encode video from nearly any format to nearly any format both SD and HD.

Until AT reviews this device, this is the best we have.

Boy do I hate these dismissive people.

I would imagine most of us enjoy reading lots of tech websites, even Tom's.


EVGA GTFO

The EVGA motherboard review was very enlightening and indeed touched on a lot of reasons they should be the last choice of OEMs for most if not all builders.

-terrible manual
-unclear featureset (how many phases in the voltage regulator? how many PCIE lanes in the second graphics slot)
-won't say what audio codec or network chip used
-sparse info on website

and most of all

-OVERPRICED!

They charge consistently more than Gigabyte, MSI and Asus for an inferior product.

This is not at all the first review to reach these same conclusions.

In the last part of the review they recommend the upcoming MSI H57M-ED65. While the price isn't yet available, I'm going to watch for it since I'm pricing an mATX system at this time anyway . . .

I should add that the only EVGA product I ever had, a video card, died shortly after the warranty expired. Could just be bad luck, but it's not likely to cultivate much brand loyalty . . .
