Burn Baby

I know how hot a single GTX can get. I can't imagine how hot that case is. There is absolutely no way that is enough cooling to keep those things from overheating.

Well considering there are benchmarks, apparently it IS enough to keep them cool. For one, those are paddle fans with dual slot coolers (aka leaf blowers) which should decrease any case temperature effects a large amount.

Also realize that the total cost of 3 8800 Ultras, plus the supporting motherboard, plus the massive powersupply to power the cards will set up back roughly $3000... if you can drop $3000, im pretty sure you can afford some 120mm fans.

Not to mention, it would actively increase your electric bill. Makes me wish I was back in college where my overpriced tuition payed for my folding machine crunching all day. Now I can't afford the electricity bill so I had to retire it mostly.

I have two folding machines keeping my dorm room warm, thanks to my overpriced liberal arts tuition, :)

No G92

I am not sure why Nvidia did not include this feature in the newer G92 core.

Most likely to cut costs on another SLI bridge connection, or to differentiate the G92 as a mid-range product from the enthusiast line-up.

because the G92 is meant to be a more budget solution. Im not sure if the new G92 based GTS512 supports the 3headed SLI or not, but im sure the new GForce 9's that they will be introducing will.

I imagine whatever G92-based "GTX" level card they introduce will have triple SLI, if there is one.

Geeks

Normal men salivate at a three way with girls. Geeks on the other hand salivate at the site of a three way SLI.

I'll be leaving now.

nVidia's Mentality

Some guy high up came to this conclusion:

"Johnson, we need to stop developing new cards. Instead just have them buy MORE!"

(I have taken in the G92 into account but this is aimed more towards the ultra high-end enthusiast)

I knew this was overkill when...

....my first thought after seeing the photo was...What will my electric bill be? Instead of "this baby must tear up some UT3".
...Well its eitheroverkill or I'm getting old lol

There has to be a better way to get more graphics horse power. Can't they come up with some kind of multi core design for this type of thing?

External SLI...
By grath on 12/14/2007 2:14:30 AM , Rating: 2
I cant help but wonder if and when we will start seeing these extreme high-end yet still enthusiast level setups in an external GPU case like the nVidia Quadro VCS. Thats certainly alot of hardware to cram into a single case and would seem to benefit from having independant cooling and power supply. Not to mention that the 3-way SLI apparently leaves only a lone PCIe 1x slot available in there, and I find it hard to believe that anyone shelling out for such a system would be satisfied without a discreet sound card.

Portable hard drive
By MScrip on 12/14/2007 3:29:04 AM , Rating: 2
I like that portable hard drive. But why does everything today have to be BLACK SHINY PLASTIC?

For once, make a portable device that has textured plastic. Anything but shiny black! It looks great the day you take it out of the box... but these things get handled.

But the big question I have....

Can you turn on Vsync yet for SLI?

Because if you cant, I wouldn't touch these with a barge pole. You cant spend huge amounts of money for the very best and then find you have tearing frame updates all down an LCD screen, it's naff.

Can anyone tell me if they've conquored this problem yet>? I heard it related to an inability to run tripple buffering via SLI.
