64-bit bug fixed?

The C2 revision Deneb had problem clocking over 4.0 GHz when used with a 64-bit OS. Did AMD fix this issue? I read a couple of reviews but none says clearly about it while showing overclocks around 4.0 GHz.

NB improvement is nice. I think AMD can have another SKU after this since it leaves 140W space empty, albeit at the cost of overclocking headroom. (3.6 GHz 975 BE)

Nevermind. I see HotHardware have it @4.1 GHz while running Cinebench (which is one of the toughest tests for overclocked Phenom II's). I guess AMD fixed it.

Why is this considered 'a bug'? Did it not overclock over 4Ghz, under any circumstances, no matter what kind of cooling was used, but yet 32 bit made it much higher?

32-bit always clocks higher than 64-bit, and I doubt 32-bit overclocking gets much higher than 4ghz on air anyway.

It is/was a bit frustrating for many of us though as 3.8GHZ seemed to be a wall for stability in 64bit Operating systems. Didn't seem to really matter 920-965 had serious issues going past 4Ghz regardless of your cooling and yet flew right on by the 4ghz barrier on a 32Bit OS.

I'd really like to see Anand do a indepth article on it and the reasons why it's happening. Every thing I've read involves vague speculation at best.

REGARDLESS, the PII is a fantastic product. Still buying them even with Intel's launch of the I5 as they are very competitive and make for great upgrades to aging systems.
I have both the PII 920 and the I7 920 in the home right now and like both systems. No problem at all jumping between the two as both are speedy as hell.

what motherboard do you guys recommend for these chips, I bought a pair of phenom II x4 940s (deneb rb-c2) for work and cant overclock them at all without serious stability issues. I can't even get 100mhz out of them. One of them has an asus motherboard with a 785gx the other has a biostar mobo with the same chipset, I was thinking of buying one for my wife to upgrade her old allendale c2d but the weak overclocking and all the stability issues I've been experiencing is really a turn off.

as for the i7 64bit issue I've experienced it myself with my 920 C0 I bought it from newegg when everyone said the D0's were shipping and got screwed. On water in my p6t deluxe I can't get it past 3.7ghz stable :( some sort of explanation on the difference between 64bit and 32bit overclocking would be nice

My favorite boards offer the 790X/750 chipset.. but not the expensive ones.. These below won't break the bank but have many of the features one would look for on higher end boards.

The Asus M4A78T-E (or it's DDR2 equivelent Asus M4A78-E)
I also really love the Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P DDR2 board. It can be a bit wonky and I am not a fan of Gigabyte but holy crap .. The build quality on that board makes it a real winner.

That being said you must have some underlying issue going on as I've yet to come accross a PII that doesn't hit 3.5-3.75Ghz with ease. For the Black Edition one's usually a quick multiplyer adjustment will push it to 3.4 and then some fiddling with the FSB to get it higher does the trick.

My advice would be to check some guides to see if your doing something wrong as I've had no issues OC'ing on even the lowly $60 MATX boards (They just don't have all the overclocking options one might want.. Still enough to easily get it up there though)
