Rock Band Canada delay; Prince of Persia movie; Marky Mark as Max Payne

There’s no argument that Neversoft did a great job on Guitar Hero III, but many fans of the rock rhythm genre are anxiously waiting for Rock Band from the original Guitar Hero developer Harmonix. Gamers in the U.S. will be getting their rock on with Rock Band next week, but some sad, sad news comes for those who want to rock out in Canada.

While Canada and the U.S. usually share street dates, EA and MTV Games have apparently delayed the game’s release nearly a month north of the American border. Rock Band will ship in Canada on December 17.

Best Buy’s Midnight Launches for Rock Band
To add insult to injury for Canadian gamers, Best Buy announced that dozens of stores will open at midnight on Tuesday, November 20 for the release of Rock Band – all in the United States only.

Guitar Hero III Boosts DragonForce Sales
English power metal band’s track “Through the Fire and Flames” was featured as the ending song and bonus track to Guitar Hero 3. Apparently players of the latest guitar game liked the song so much that they decided to pay good money for the band’s full album. Sales of the DragonForce album Inhuman Rampage increased 126 percent week-on-week following Guitar Hero III’s release.

Xbox 360 Fall 2007 Dashboard Update Coming This Winter
For one reason or another, this Xbox 360 Fall update is coming a little later than expected. Now slated for December 2, details of what will be included in the update are scant. What will likely be added is the ability to download and play original Xbox games on the Xbox 360 – mirroring a feature currently available on the PlayStation Network.

Mike Newell says Prince of Persia Movie is Not a Videogame Movie
Confirmed director of the upcoming Princeof Persia movie said, “It's not a videogame movie. It's a great story. Ifyou had read the script, you would know that it wasn't a videogame. It's very exciting and it's immensely romantic and it's like Lost Horizon. It takes you to somewhere you've never been ... There's so much that will happen with that story because it's 1300 years ago.”

Imagine Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne
Marky Mark is currently in talks with Twentieth Century Fox on his potential role as Max Payne inthe movie based on the computer game. While the lead actor role has yet to beofficially confirmed, director John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix and The Omen) is set to direct.

Good news for Dragonforce

I've been a longtime fan of Dragonforce, and it's nice to see them finally getting the attention they deserve. It's kind of ironic that it took a video game to do it, as many of the sounds used in Dragonforce songs are inspired by old school video games.

DragonForce is the hardest metal ever! They're harder than diamond, and diamond is the hardest metal known! :)

This is the first time I've heard that DragonForce was included in Guitar Hero III ... I'm very excited... PREPARE FOR WAR!
I think your right Gnoad, they don't get the attention they deserve for producing a unique type of metal that i'm yet to hear from any other band in the last 10 years

Max Marky

I can think of about dozen actors off the top of my head who'd be better suited to Max Payne, but then, I can think of 3 dozen who would be worse, so I guess we should breathe a sigh of relief that it's not going to one of the latter.

Nonetheless, who wouldn't want to see Brad Pitt mumbling his way through two hours of cheesy neo-noir dialogue?

Heck, he already did in Se7en!

I'm more excited about the possibility of Christian Bale playing Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid movie. I can't think of a better match for the role off the top of my head.

As for Mark Wahlberg in Max Payne, I think he's actually a pretty good match. He's not the best, for sure, but I agree that he's far better than many others they could have picked.

There's even talk of an MGS game? Christian Bale would work pretty well in that one, I think.

John Woo

Too bad John Woo won't be the director of Max Payne... There are many references to him in Max Payne 1. In fact Max Payne looks just like the main actor (Chow Yun Fat) in Hard Boiled, a John Woo film.

Max Payne does not look like Chow Yun Fat. Take another look.

Pity

I pity the actor playing Max Payne because he will have to squint the whole movie.

Also, he should think about getting a sequel running because it'll be a while until he can get over the character. People will want a sequel (Max Payne makes a good story all by itself so its likely the movie will be decent).

Sad thing the bullet time effect is a Matrix thing. Hopefully they'll use it wisely.
